The Millitzer Studio and Gallery

In their inaugural exhibition, collaborative duo LAB:D use a variety of visual strategies. Mixing found, altered, and created material, they pull from a combination of direct experiences and haunting observations. The exhibition’s title, taken directly from a conversation between the two, is the context from which the show unfolds: that some truths are quite rude, and conversely, that in rudeness lies the truth required for certain situations. From the interpersonal, to affronts on communities of people, the exhibition confronts the notion of rudeness, either subtle or explicit — in some cases magnifying such incidents, allowing viewers to bear witness, while in others, taking the position of the aggressor. Humor becomes the primary operative device, not to undermine seriousness, but to draw attention to the peculiar cultural and social practices that have taken hold throughout history and carried into our contemporary consciousness.
