Utilizing the media of sculpture, painting, and video installation, these artists show the body as more than a passive symbolic vessel. The corporeal subjects of their work cannot be experienced from a position of disinterested contemplation, but instead facilitate an engagement with the viewer’s own body. The homunculus, an alchemically fabricated life form, serves as a metaphor for such creations.
